Pion double charge exchange on He4

Abstract

We have examined the reaction He4(π±, π)4({p}{n}) in a model in which there occur two single πN charge-exchange scatterings with intermediate off-shell pion propagation between scatterings. Separable π-nucleon t matrices having off-shell form factors were used with fully antisymmetrized nuclear wave functions. Spin-flip of the struck nucleons was included. Both angular distributions and total cross sections were calculated and compared with available data.

NUCLEAR REACTIONS He4(π, π+); E=0500 MeV calculated σ(E); E=140 MeV calculated σ(E); E=140 MeV calculated σ(θ=0°, E); E=485 MeV calculated σ(Ef).
