Abstract

The C12(C12, Be8), O16(O16, Be8), and Si28(C12, Be8) reactions show final state relative populations which are very similar to the corresponding (Li6, d), (Li7,t), (C12,α), and (O16, C12) reactions on the same target nuclei. Selective population of final states for C12 and Si28 targets is accompanied by rapidly fluctuating excitation functions for the C12(C12, Be8) reactions and much smoother, yet not flat, excitation functions for Si28(C12, Be8). Angular distributions are forward peaked. The O16(O16, Be8) reaction is not selective, similar to O16(C12,α).

[NUCLEAR REACTIONS C12(C12, Be8)O*16, measured excitation functions Ec.m.=17 to 21 MeV, σ(θ) at 21 MeV; O16(O16, Be8)Mg*24; Si28(C12, Be8)S*32, measured excitation functions Ec.m.=23 to 29 MeV, σ(θ) at 29.4 MeV.]
