Abstract

The (d, t) reaction on the isotopes Sm147 and Sm149 has been investigated at a deuteron energy of 17 MeV; the (d, p) reaction on the isotope Sm147 at a deuteron energy of 12.5 MeV. Angular distributions were taken in 2.5° steps in the range of 7.5θlab35° and in 5° steps for θlab>35°. The experimental energy resolution is 9-11 keV for the pickup reactions and 10-12 keV for the stripping case. Spectroscopic factors and l transfers were extracted by distorted wave Born approximation analysis. Eighty-three states in Sm146 are observed; l transfer and Jπ limits are given for 36 of them. For the nucleus Sm148 97 states are observed; l transfers and Jπ limits are given for 63 of them. Reasonable l=3, l=1, and l=0 summed strengths have been found. Comparison with (p, t) and (t, p) studies of the same final nuclei investigated here is made in a phenomenological collective picture.

NUCLEAR REACTIONS Sm147(d, t) and Sm149(d, t), Ed=17 MeV. Sm147(d, p), Ed=12.5 MeV. Measured σ(Et, θ), σ(Ep, θ); Sm146,148 level energies, resolution 9-12 keV, enriched targets, DWBA analysis.
