Abstract

Angular distributions were measured for particle groups populating low-lying levels in the reactions C12(N14,d)Mg24, C12(N14,p)Mg25, and C12(N14,α)Na22 at Elab=20 and 25 MeV. Excitation functions were also measured for low-lying γ-ray transitions in Mg24, Mg25, Na24, Ne21, Na21, and F18 produced by C12 bombardment of N14 at Elab=1433 MeV. The excellent agreement of Hauser-Feshbach statistical model predictions with these results indicates that the light particle production from the C12 + N14 interaction reflects a dominant compound nuclear interaction mechanism.

NUCLEAR REACTIONS C12 + N14 compound reactions, light particle emission and subsequent γ-ray decay, statistical model calculations. C12(N14,d), (N14,p), (N14,α), Elab=20, 25 MeV, measured σ(θ); N14(C12,γ), Elab=1433 MeV, measured Eγ, σ(Eγ).
