Production of Be8 in the reaction of 126-MeV C12 with Au197

Abstract

The cross section for the production of Be8(g.s.) in the C12 + Au197 reaction at 126-MeV bombarding energy has been measured as 37 ± 8 mb. Thus, the total observed Be cross section is about 40 mb less than the Tl cross section for the same entrance channel, which suggests a substantial cross section for excited states of Be8.
