Abstract

β-neutron time-of-flight techniques have been used to detect a third and previously unobserved neutron group in the decay of B13 corresponding to a (0.022 ± 0.007)% β-ray branch to the 9.90-MeV state of C13. The logft of 4.95 ± 0.12 for this branch agrees with the logft of 5.18 ± 0.14 for the analog O13N13 transition, and thus confirms a previous assignment of the 9.90-MeV C13 state as the Jπ=32 analog of the 9.52-MeV state in N13.

RADIOACTIVITY B13; measured β-neutron time-of-flight spectrum; deduced β branches, logft; compared with O13 mirror decay.
