Abstract

Particle-hole multiplets in Bi208 corresponding to the coupling of the h92 proton with neutron holes in the p12, f52, p32, i132, f72, and h92 shells have been observed by the Bi209(p,d)Bi208 reaction at 35 MeV with an over-all resolution of 5 keV in the deuteron spectra. The results generally show excellent agreement with the weak coupling model except for the h92 hole states. However the observed h92 multiplet states do contain a large fraction of the expected strength. There is also substantial agreement with earlier (d,t) work except for some spin assignments and in the location of the 2 member of the πh92, ν1i132 multiplet.
