Abstract

By utilizing particle-identification techniques to detect the two breakup α particles from Be8, we have studied the reactions C12(C12, Be8)O16 and O16(C12, Be8)Ne20. The (C12, Be8) reaction strongly populates the positive-parity four-particle, four-hole rotational band of O16 based on its 6.05-MeV (0+) state, and both the positive- and negative-parity rotational bands of Ne20 based on its ground-state (0+) and 5.80-MeV (1) state, respectively.
