Abstract

We report extensive new data on the isospin-forbidden reaction C12(d,α2)B10(1.74) for 7.19 MeVEd13.99 MeV. We also report extensive data for the isospin-allowed reactions C12(d,α0,1,3)B10. All channels exhibit resonant behavior indicative of compound-nucleus formation. We find no evidence for appreciable direct or semidirect contribution to the α2 cross sections. A partial-wave expansion of the α2 data fixes Jπ for a number of (isospin-mixed) N14 compound-nuclear levels. Our data do not support either Noble's proposed Li6 mechanism or Weller's modification to Noble's proposal.
