Abstract

A new series of radioactive isotopes has been produced by deuteron and helium ion bombardments of thorium. The identity and the properties of the five members of this series, which is a branch of the uranium-radium series and joins it at RaC′, are shown to be the following: {Pa230β17dU230α(5.86MeV)20.8dTh226α(6.3MeV)30.9m}{Ra222α(6.5MeV)38sEm218α(7.1MeV)0.019sRaCα1.5×104}{RaDβ22yRaEβ5dRaFα140dRaG(stable)}

A simple electronic device was developed to measure the short half-life of Em218.
