Model-independent determination of the astrophysical S factor in laser-induced fusion plasmas

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 2H(d, n)3He, 3He(d, p)4He, E(cm)=5-500 keV; measured deuterium ion energy density distribution from time-of-flight, neutron yields from d+d fusion, angular distribution of neutrons, yield of 14.7-MeV protons using various scintillation detectors; deduced model-independent astrophysical factor S(E). Laser-induced fusion plasmas using Texas Petawatt Laser (TPW). Comparison with previous experimental data. Relevance to primordial abundances in Big Bang nucleosynthesis (BBN) models, and plasma physics.
