Superfluid helium film may greatly increase the storage time of ultracold neutrons in material traps

RADIOACTIVITY 1n(β-); calculated neutron wave functions without and with helium film of different thicknesses, reduction factor of neutron losses inside flat trap walls, made of beryllium and "Fomblin" oil due to helium film; proposed that liquid helium film may reduce a hundred times the neutron absorption rate inside ultra-cold neutron (UCN) trap material, leading to increase in the neutron storage time and the precision of its lifetime measurements by at least tenfold.

Neutrons on a surface of liquid helium

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 4He(n, n), E=ultracold neutrons; calculated temperature-dependent rates of scattering of neutrons propagating in low gravitationally bound states above a neutron optical mirror of superfluid helium; discussed neutron-ripplon scattering. Relevance to storage of ultracold neutrons and β- decay of neutron.
