Measurement of the branching ratio for the β decay of 14O

RADIOACTIVITY 14O(EC), (β+)[from N(p, n), E=8 MeV]; measured Eβ, Iβ positron spectra using a superconducting magnetic spectrometer and a thick Si(Li) detector at the University of Wisconsin Nuclear Physics Laboratory; deduced β branching ratio and partial half-life for superallowed 0+ to 0+ Fermi decay to the first excited state of 14N, logft, Ft. Discussed impact on the determination of the Vud element of the CKM matrix. Comparison with previous experimental measurements, and with evaluation of other superallowed 0+ to 0+ β transitions.
