Measurement of the EMC effect in light and heavy nuclei

NUCLEAR REACTIONS ²H, ^3,4He, ⁹Be, ¹²C, ⁶³Cu, ¹⁹⁷Au(e, e'), E=5.77 GeV; measured scattered electrons using high momentum spectrometer (HMS), a magnetic focusing spectrometer at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator facility; deduced charge symmetric background, differential σ, magnitude of isoscalar corrections, EMC (European Muon Collaboration effect) ratios; analyzed present data combined with those from SLAC and CLAS. Cross sections listed in Supplemental Material. Relevance to atomic mass A-dependence of the EMC effect of nuclear structure functions differing significantly from the sum of proton and neutron distributions.
