New evidence for chemical fractionation of radioactive xenon precursors in fission chains

RADIOACTIVITY 235,238U(SF); measured concentration and isotopic compositions of Xe fission products released from untreated natural U-rich sample from Streltsovka ore field in Trans-Baikalia, 134Xe/136Xe, 132Xe/136Xe, 131Xe/136Xe, 129Xe/136Xe yield ratios at temperatures of 600-1750 C; deduced chemically fractionated fission (CFF), and correlations of this effect with half-lives of water soluble radioiodines. Comparison with data from other ores and sources. Discussed CFF as likely process for the isotopic difference in Xe in the Earth's and Martian atmospheres, and geo- and astrophysical implications of this effect.
