190PO c First identification of {+194}Rn nuclide by 2006An36.
190PO c 2006An36: {+194}Rn was produced and identified in {+144}Sm({+52}Cr,2n)
190PO2c reaction at E=236 MeV on a {+144}SmF{-3} rotating target on a carbon
190PO3c backing at UNILAC heavy-ion facility of GSI, with SHIP velocity filter
190PO4c for separating evaporation residues. Several different types of
190PO5c detectors were used: the decays of the evaporation residues were
190PO6c measured by implanting residues in a thick 16-strip position-sensitive
190PO7c silicon detector (PSSD) with a typical FWHM|?20 keV for |a particles
190PO8c in 6-8 MeV range. An array of six silicon detectors of similar shape
190PO9c (BOX detectors), mounted upstream of PSSD detector, was used to
190POac measure the energies of |a, |b and conversion electrons. Three thin
190PObc time-of-flight detectors in front of the PSSD and BOX detectors
190POcc permitted identification of reaction products from the scattered beam
190POdc particles; and distinction between the decay events and implantation
190POec events through anti-coincidence technique. An additional thick Si
190POfc detector was installed as a veto detector behind the PSSD detector in
190POgc an anti-coincidence mode. This allowed distinction between the decays
190POhc and the punch-through events (from high-energy protons and |a particles
190POic produced in the reactions on the carbon backing). For |g rays, a
190POjc four-fold segmented Clover Ge detector was used behind the PSSD
190POkc detectors for prompt and delayed |g(residues) coin and/or |a|g coin
190POlc measurements. Identification of the isotope by time and position
190POmc correlation of |a decays from {+194}Rn with the known |a decays from
190POnc daughter isotope {+190}Po and grand-daughter {+186}Pb. Measured |a, |g,
190POoc |a|g coin, |a(residues) coin, |g(residues) coin. Deduced evidence
190POpc and T{-1/2} of {+194}Rn parent
190PO cA HF$Deduced r{-0}({+190}Po)=1.590 fm {I11}, assuming 100% g.s. to g.s.
