2010Al24: 229At was produced in a bombardment of a 2500 mg/cm2-thick 9Be target with a 1 GeV/nucleon 238U beam at the SIS synchrotron facility at GSI. The fragments were selected by the FRagment Separator (FRS) and the isotopic identification was made by measuring the magnetic rigidity, velocity, time-of-flight, energy loss and atomic number of the ions using two plastic scintillators and two multisampling ionization chambers. Production cross section was measured and compared with predictions using the COFRA and EPAX codes.
