Photon strength functions, level densities, and isomeric ratio in 168Er from the radiative neutron capture measured at the DANCE facility

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 168Er(n, γ), E=15-350 eV; measured neutron Time-of-Flight, Eγ, Iγ, γγ-coin, total γ-sum energy, multistep γ-cascade spectra; deduced γ- multiplicity, isomeric ratios, resonances, total radiative width of s-wave resonances. 168Er; deduced isomer levels, T1/2, nuclear level density (NLD), photon strength functions (PSFs), total B(M1) strength. Comparison to experimental data obtained by Oslo method and in NRF experiments. Confirmed scissor mode resonance-like structure in the M1 PSF with its centroid between 3.1 and 3.3 MeV and a width of about 1 MeV. Analysis of multistep cascade fluctuations indicate possible invalidity of the assumed Porter-Thomas distribution of the primary transition intensities. Comparison to TALYS and DICEBOX simulations. Highly segmented γ-ray calorimeter Detector for Advanced Neutron Capture Experiments DANCE (160 BaF2 scintillation crystals) at at the moderated spallation neutron source LANSCE (Los Alamos Neutron Science Center).

Total absorption spectroscopy of the β decay of 101, 102Zr and 109Tc

RADIOACTIVITY 101,102Zr, 109Tc(β-)[from 9Be(124Sn, X), E=120 MeV/nucleon, followed by separation of fragments using A1900 separator at NSCL-MSU]; measured Eγ, Iγ, implanted ions, (implants)γ-correlations using Summing NaI(Tl) (SuN) detector for total absorption spectroscopy; deduced β feedings as function of excitation energy, B(GT). Comparison with theoretical results from three different quasiparticle random-phase approximation (QRPA) models to investigate the ground-state shapes of the parent nuclei, and to test commonly used models that provide β-decay properties in r-process network calculations.

Examination of photon strength functions and nuclear level density in 196Pt from the γ-ray spectra measured at the DANCE facility

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 195Pt(n, γ), E=9-1000 eV; measured E(n) by time of flight, Eγ, Iγ, γγ-coin, multi-step γ-ray cascades (MSCs) using the segmented γ-ray Detector for Advanced Neutron Capture (DANCE) of 160 BaF2 crystals at the Los Alamos Neutron Science Center (LANSC). 196Pt; deduced nuclear level density (NLD) and photon strength functions (PSFs); confirmed E1 PSF resonance at ≈5.6 MeV. Comparison of experimental MSC spectra with previous experimental data from Oslo and others, and with constant-temperature (CT) and back-shifted Fermi-gas (BSFG) model calculations.

Constraints on the dipole photon strength functions from experimental multistep cascade spectra

Comparison with experimental data. Z=10-110, N=10-230; calculated Maxwellian-averaged cross sections for (n, γ) at a temperature of 109K using D1M+QRPA+0lim formalism and compared with GLO+SF PSF recommended in RIPL-3.

Strength of the scissors mode in odd-mass Gd isotopes from the radiative capture of resonance neutrons

Comparison with several model calculations of photon strength functions (PSF) and nuclear level densities (NLD) for deformed nuclei, and with experimental data from other reactions. Discussed scissors mode in odd-A Gd isotopes from summed reduced M1 strengths. Evidence of odd-even effect in strength of scissors mode.
