Evolution of E2 strength in the rare-earth isotopes 174, 176, 178, 180Hf

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 180Hf(16O, 16O), E=55 MeV; measured Eγ, Iγ, γγ-coin, half-lives of first 2+, 4+ and 6+ states by fast-timing γγ-coin using the ROSPHERE detector array for γ detection at the Bucharest FN Tandem accelerator. 180Hf; deduced levels, B(E2) values and B(E2) ratios. Comparison with literature values.

RADIOACTIVITY 174,176,178Ta(EC), (β+)[from 171Yb(6Li, 3n), 172,173Yb(7Li, 3n), E=30 MeV]; measured Eγ, Iγ, γγ-coin, half-lives of first 2+, 4+, 6+ states, and first 2- and 3- states in 176Hf by fast-timing γγ-coin using the ROSPHERE detector array for γ detection at the Bucharest FN Tandem accelerator. 174,176,178Hf; deduced levels, B(E2) for 174,176,178Hf, and B(E1), B(M2), B(E3) for 176Hf. Systematics of g factors and B(E2) of first excited 2+ states, β4 deformation parameters in 156,158,160,162,164,166,168,170Er, 158,160,162,164,166,168,170,172,174,176Yb, 162,164,166,168,170,172,174,176,178,180Hf, 168,170,172,174,180,182,184,186W, 178,180,182,184Os. Comparison with values obtained in the rigid rotor limit and in the vibrator limit.

Lifetime measurements in 138Nd

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 123Sb(19F, 4n), E=68 MeV; measured Eγ, Iγ, γγ-coin, half-lives of excited levels by recoil-distance Doppler shift technique using the ROSPHERE array at IFIN-HH, Bucharest. 138Nd; deduced levels, J, π, B(E1), B(E2), configurations; calculated Potential energy surface (PES) for the ground-state. Comparison with large-scale shell model, and constrained Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov calculations with the Gogny D1S interaction. Discussed onset of collectivity in Nd isotopes below the N=82 shell closure from B(E2) systematics in 132,134,136,138,140Nd, 136Ce, 140,142Sm.

Fast-timing lifetime measurement of 152Gd

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 149Sm(α, n), E=17.5 MeV; measured Eγ, γγ-coin, level half-lives by γγ(t) fast timing technique (FEST) at NIPNE-Bucharest Tandem accelerator facility. 152Gd; deduced levels, B(E2), E0 transition strength for excited 0+ state to the ground state, indication of a quantum phase transition (QPT). Comparison with previous experimental results. Systematics of B(E2) products and E0 strength for 146,148,150,152,154,156,158Gd, 148,150,152,154Sm.

Lifetime measurement for the 2+1 state in 140Sm and the onset of collectivity in neutron-deficient Sm isotopes

Systematics of energies and B(E2) of first 2+ states, and E(4+)/E(2+) in 134,136,138,140,142,144,146,148,150,152,154Sm. 141Sm, 197Au; observed γ. Fit of B(E2) and E(2+) with modified Grodzins formula. Comparison with calculations based on a mapped collective Hamiltonian in five quadrupole coordinates (5DCH) and the Gogny D1S interaction.
