Lifetime measurements in the transitional nucleus ¹³⁸Gd

NUCLEAR REACTIONS ¹⁰⁶Cd(³⁶Ar, 2n2p), E=190 MeV; measured Eγ, Iγ, γγ-coin, half-lives by recoil-distance Doppler-shift method using Cologne plunger and JUROGAM II array at JYFL facility. ¹³⁸Gd; deduced levels, half-lives, B(E2). ¹³⁸Gd; calculated potential energy surface (PES). Comparison with X(5) critical-point and Interacting Boson Model (IBM-1) calculations.
