Perey, Hetrich, and 2834 1451 44 Fu. 2834 1451 45 2834 1451 46 INCIDENT NEUTRON ENERGIES > 20 MeV 2834 1451 47 2834 1451 48 The ENDF/B-VI Release 2 evaluation extends to 20 MeV and 2834 1451 49 includes cross sections and energy-angle data for all 2834 1451 50 significant reactions. The present evaluation utilizes a more 2834 1451 51 compact composite reaction spectrum representation above 20 MeV 2834 1451 52 in order to reduce the length of the file. No essential data for 2834 1451 53 applications is lost with this representation. 2834 1451 54 The evaluation above 20 MeV utilizes MF=6, MT=5 to represent 2834 1451 55 all reaction data. Production cross sections and emission 2834 1451 56 spectra are given for neutrons, protons, deuterons, tritons, 2834 1451 57 alpha particles, gamma rays, and all residual nuclides produced 2834 1451 58 (A>5) in the reaction chains. To summarize, the ENDF sections 2834 1451 59 with non-zero data above En = 20 MeV are: 2834 1451 60 2834 1451 61 MF=3 MT= 1 Total Cross Section 2834 1451 62 MT= 2 Elastic Scattering Cross Section 2834 1451 63 MT= 3 Nonelastic Cross Section 2834 1451 64 MT= 5 Sum of Binary (n,n') and (n,x) Reactions 2834 1451 65 2834 1451 66 MF=4 MT= 2 Elastic Angular Distributions 2834 1451 67 2834 1451 68 MF=6 MT= 5 Production Cross Sections and Energy-Angle 2834 1451 69 Distributions for Emission Neutrons, Protons, 2834 1451 70 Deuterons, Tritons, and Alphas; and Angle- 2834 1451 71 Integrated Spectra for Gamma Rays and Residual 2834 1451 72 Nuclei That Are Stable Against Particle Emission 2834 1451 73 2834 1451 74 The evaluation is based on nuclear model calculations that 2834 1451 75 have been benchmarked to experimental data, especially for n + 2834 1451 76 Ni58 and p + Ni58 reactions (Ch97). We use the GNASH code system 2834 1451 77 (Yo92), which utilizes Hauser-Feshbach statistical, 2834 1451 78 preequilibrium and direct-reaction theories. Spherical optical 2834 1451 79 model calculations are used to obtain particle transmission 2834 1451 80 coefficients for the Hauser-Feshbach calculations, as well as 2834 1451 81 for the elastic neutron angular distributions. 2834 1451 82 Cross sections and spectra for producing individual residual 2834 1451 83 nuclei are included for reactions. The energy-angle-correlations 2834 1451 84 for all outgoing particles are based on Kalbach systematics 2834 1451 85 (Ka88). 2834 1451 86 A model was developed to calculate the energy distributions of 2834 1451 87 all recoil nuclei in the GNASH calculations (Ch96). The recoil 2834 1451 88 energy distributions are represented in the laboratory system in 2834 1451 89 MT=5, MF=6, and are given as isotropic in the lab system. All 2834 1451 90 other data in MT=5,MF=6 are given in the center-of-mass system. 2834 1451 91 This method of representation utilizes the LCT=3 option approved 2834 1451 92 at the November, 1996, CSEWG meeting. 2834 1451 93 Preequilibrium corrections were performed in the course of the 2834 1451 94 GNASH calculations using the exciton model of Kalbach (Ka77, 2834 1451 95 Ka85), validated by comparison with calculations using Feshbach, 2834 1451 96 Kerman, Koonin (FKK) theory [Ch93]. Discrete level data from 2834 1451 97 nuclear data sheets were matched to continuum level densities 2834 1451 98 using the formulation of Gilbert and Cameron (Gi65) and pairing 2834 1451 99 and shell parameters from the Cook (Co67) analysis. Neutron and 2834 1451 100 charged- particle transmission coefficients were obtained from 2834 1451 101 the optical potentials, as discussed below. Gamma-ray 2834 1451 102 transmission coefficients were calculated using the Kopecky-Uhl 2834 1451 103 model (Ko90). 2834 1451 104 2834 1451 105 SOME Ni-SPECIFIC INFORMATION CONCERNING THE EVAL. 2834 1451 106 2834 1451 107 The neutron total cross section was evaluated based on the 2834 1451 108 least-squares method with GMA code system (Po81) taking account of2834 1451 109 the experimental data(Ci68, Pe73, Sc73, La83, Sm92, Di97). The 2834 1451 110 data for natural Ni and Ni-58 were used because there was no data 2834 1451 111 for Ni-61. These data were transformed to the Ni-61 cross section2834 1451 112 according to A*(2/3) law. In the GMA analysis, the systematic 2834 1451 113 error was assumed to be 1 % for all the data set. Result of the 2834 1451 114 GMA evaluation was used as the evaluated total cross section data 2834 1451 115 above 20 MeV. 2834 1451 116 2834 1451 117 The evaluated total cross section data (1 to 250 MeV) and s-wave 2834 1451 118 strength function (Mu81) were used to obtain the neutron optical 2834 1451 119 potential parameters. The parameter estimation was carried out 2834 1451 120 based on Marquart-Bayesian approach (Sm91), where ECIS95 code was 2834 1451 121 used for the optical model calculation. We have employed the 2834 1451 122 energy dependence of the optical potential similar to Delaroche's 2834 1451 123 work(De89). The initial potential parameters were adopted from 2834 1451 124 Koning and Delaroche (Ko97). Total of 7 parameters concerning the2834 1451 125 central potential depth were estimated with associated covariance 2834 1451 126 matrix, while the geometrical parameters were fixed to the result 2834 1451 127 of a similar search for n + Ni-58. Presently obtained potential 2834 1451 128 was used for the calculation of neutron transmission coefficients 2834 1451 129 and DWBA cross sections in the energy region above 20 MeV. Below 2834 1451 130 20 MeV, the Harper neutron potential (Ha82) was used for the 2834 1451 131 calculation of transmission coefficients. 2834 1451 132 2834 1451 133 The proton optical potential was also searched for to obtain a 2834 1451 134 good description of proton-total reaction cross section as 2834 1451 135 predicted by Wellisch-Axen systematic (We96) above 50 MeV. The 2834 1451 136 parameter estimation was carried out by the Marquart-Bayesian 2834 1451 137 approach similar to the neutron OMP, but trying to seek the best 2834 1451 138 parameter to reproduce the reaction cross sections compiled by 2834 1451 139 Carlson (Ca96) and Wellisch values. The experimental data in 2834 1451 140 Carlson (Ca96) was scaled for Ni-61 according to A**(2/3) law. In2834 1451 141 this search, the geometrical parameters were fixed to be same as 2834 1451 142 the neutron potential. The present potential gives a good 2834 1451 143 description of the proton total reaction cross section from 10 MeV2834 1451 144 to 250 MeV. However, after some trial and error to reproduce both2834 1451 145 the elastic scattering and reaction cross section data for Ni-58, 2834 1451 146 we have employed the following combination of proton potentials: 2834 1451 147 2834 1451 148 0 to 5 MeV : Harper potential (Ha82) 2834 1451 149 6 to 47 MeV : Koning and Delaroche (Ko97) 2834 1451 150 48 to 260 MeV : Present OMP 2834 1451 151 2834 1451 152 For deuterons, the Lohr-Haeberli (Lo74) global potential was used;2834 1451 153 for alpha particles the McFadden-Satchler (Mc66) potential was 2834 1451 154 used; and for tritons the Becchetti-Greenlees (Be71) potential was2834 1451 155 used.
