The discussion 2634 1451 30 here is divided into the region below and above 20 MeV. 2634 1451 31 2634 1451 32 INCIDENT NEUTRON ENERGIES < 20 MeV 2634 1451 33 2634 1451 34 Below 20 MeV the evaluation is based completely on the ENDF/B- 2634 1451 35 VI.1 (Release 1) evaluation by [He91] (see also [Fu86]). The 2634 1451 36 following modifications were made to the ENDF/B-VI.1 evaluation: 2634 1451 37 2634 1451 38 1. The covariance files (MF=33) were removed from the file. 2634 1451 39 2634 1451 40 2. We use the GNASH code 2634 1451 68 system [Yo92], which utilizes Hauser-Feshbach statistical, 2634 1451 69 preequilibrium and direct-reaction theories. Spherical optical 2634 1451 70 model calculations are used to obtain particle transmission 2634 1451 71 coefficients for the Hauser-Feshbach calculations, as well as 2634 1451 72 for the elastic neutron angular distributions. 2634 1451 73 Cross sections and spectra for producing individual residual 2634 1451 74 nuclei are included for reactions that exceed a cross section of 2634 1451 75 approximately 1 nb at any energy. The energy-angle-correlations 2634 1451 76 for all outgoing particles are based on Kalbach systematics 2634 1451 77 [Ka88]. 2634 1451 78 A model was developed to calculate the energy distributions of 2634 1451 79 all recoil nuclei in the GNASH calculations [Ch96b]. The recoil 2634 1451 80 energy distributions are represented in the laboratory system in 2634 1451 81 MT=5, MF=6, and are given as isotropic in the lab system. Note 2634 1451 82 that all other data in MT=5,MF=6 are given in the center-of-mass 2634 1451 83 system. This method of representation requires a modification of 2634 1451 84 the original ENDF-6 format. 2634 1451 85 Preequilibrium corrections were performed in the course of the 2634 1451 86 GNASH calculations using the exciton model of Kalbach [Ka77, 2634 1451 87 Ka85], validated by comparison with calculations using Feshbach, 2634 1451 88 Kerman, Koonin (FKK) theory [Ch93]. Discrete level data from 2634 1451 89 nuclear data sheets were matched to continuum level densities 2634 1451 90 using the formulation of Ignatyuk [Ig75] and pairing and shell 2634 1451 91 parameters from the Cook [Co67] analysis. Neutron and charged- 2634 1451 92 particle transmission coefficients were obtained from the 2634 1451 93 optical potentials, as discussed below. Gamma-ray transmission 2634 1451 94 coefficients were calculated using the Kopecky-Uhl model [Ko90]. 2634 1451 95 The neutron optical model potential of Arthur et al. [Ar80] 2634 1451 96 was used to calculate transmission coefficients and cross 2634 1451 97 sections with the SCAT2 code [Be92] up to a neutron energy of 26 2634 1451 98 MeV. Between 26 and 52 MeV, the imaginary volume component of 2634 1451 99 Arthur's potential was modified to better account for nonelastic 2634 1451 100 cross section measurements, and above 52 MeV the Semmering 2634 1451 101 potential of Madland [Ma88] was used. For protons, the 2634 1451 102 Beccetti-Greenlees potential [Be69] was utilized below 28 MeV, 2634 1451 103 and the Madland potential [Ma88] was used at higher energies. 2634 1451 104 The global spherical potential of Perey [Pe63] was utilized for 2634 1451 105 deuterons, and the potential of Beccetti-Greenlees [Be71] was 2634 1451 106 adopted for tritons. Finally, the alpha potential of Lemos 2634 1451 107 [Le72], as adapted by Arthur et al.
