Epperson. 1431 1451 28 1431 1451 29 INCIDENT NEUTRON ENERGIES > 20 MeV 1431 1451 30 1431 1451 31 The ENDF/B-VI Release 5 evaluation extends to 20 MeV and 1431 1451 32 includes cross sections and energy-angle data for all 1431 1451 33 significant reactions. The present evauation utilizes a more 1431 1451 34 compact composite reaction spectrum representation above 20 MeV 1431 1451 35 in order to reduce the length of the file. No essential data for 1431 1451 36 applications is lost with this representation. 1431 1451 37 The evaluation above 20 MeV utilizes MF=6, MT=5 to represent 1431 1451 38 all reaction data. Production cross sections and emission 1431 1451 39 spectra are given for neutrons, protons, deuterons, tritons, 1431 1451 40 alpha particles, gamma rays, and all residual nuclides produced 1431 1451 41 (A>5) in the reaction chains. To summarize, the ENDF sections 1431 1451 42 with non-zero data above En = 20 MeV are: 1431 1451 43 1431 1451 44 MF=3 MT= 1 Total Cross Section 1431 1451 45 MT= 2 Elastic Scattering Cross Section 1431 1451 46 MT= 3 Nonelastic Cross Section 1431 1451 47 MT= 5 Sum of Binary (n,n') and (n,x) Reactions 1431 1451 48 1431 1451 49 MF=4 MT= 2 Elastic Angular Distributions 1431 1451 50 1431 1451 51 MF=6 MT= 5 Production Cross Sections and Energy-Angle 1431 1451 52 Distributions for Emission Neutrons, Protons, 1431 1451 53 Deuterons, Tritons, and Alphas; and Angle- 1431 1451 54 Integrated Spectra for Gamma Rays and Residual 1431 1451 55 1431 1451 56 Nuclei That Are Stable Against Particle Emission 1431 1451 57 1431 1451 58 The evaluation is based on nuclear model calculations that 1431 1451 59 have been benchmarked to experimental data, especially for n + 1431 1451 60 Si28 and p + Si28 reactions [Ch97]. We use the GNASH code system 1431 1451 61 [Yo92], which utilizes Hauser-Feshbach statistical, 1431 1451 62 preequilibrium and direct-reaction theories. Spherical optical 1431 1451 63 model calculations are used to obtain particle transmission 1431 1451 64 coefficients for the Hauser-Feshbach calculations, as well as 1431 1451 65 for the elastic neutron angular distributions. 1431 1451 66 Cross sections and spectra for producing individual residual 1431 1451 67 nuclei are included for reactions. The energy-angle-correlations 1431 1451 68 for all outgoing particles are based on Kalbach systematics 1431 1451 69 [Ka88]. 1431 1451 70 A model was developed to calculate the energy distributions of 1431 1451 71 all recoil nuclei in the GNASH calculations [Ch96]. The recoil 1431 1451 72 energy distributions are represented in the laboratory system in 1431 1451 73 MT=5, MF=6, and are given as isotropic in the lab system. All 1431 1451 74 other data in MT=5,MF=6 are given in the center-of-mass system. 1431 1451 75 This method of representation utilizes the LCT=3 option approved 1431 1451 76 at the November, 1996, CSEWG meeting. 1431 1451 77 1431 1451 78 Preequilibrium corrections were performed in the course of the 1431 1451 79 GNASH calculations using the exciton model of Kalbach [Ka77, 1431 1451 80 Ka85], validated by comparison with calculations using Feshbach, 1431 1451 81 Kerman, Koonin (FKK) theory [Ch93]. Discrete level data from 1431 1451 82 nuclear data sheets were matched to continuum level densities 1431 1451 83 using the formulation of Ignatyuk [Ig75] and pairing and shell 1431 1451 84 parameters from the Cook [Co67] analysis. Neutron and charged- 1431 1451 85 particle transmission coefficients were obtained from the 1431 1451 86 optical potentials, as discussed below. Gamma-ray transmission 1431 1451 87 coefficients were calculated using the Kopecky-Uhl model [Ko90]. 1431 1451 88 1431 1451 89 DETAILS OF THE n + SI-30 ANALYSIS 1431 1451 90 1431 1451 91 The neutron total cross section above 20 MeV was obtained by 1431 1451 92 evaluating the nat-Si experimental data, with a particular 1431 1451 93 emphasis on the high-accuracy Los Alamos measurements by Finlay 1431 1451 94 [Fi93]. The Si-28 total cross section, based on nat-Si data, was 1431 1451 95 scaled by 1.047 (an A**2/3 factor) for Si-30. 1431 1451 96 The Madland global medium-energy optical potential [Ma88] was 1431 1451 97 used for neutrons above 46 MeV, and the Wilmore-Hodgson 1431 1451 98 potential was used for lower neutron energies. The Madland 1431 1451 99 global medium-energy optical potential was used for protons 1431 1451 100 above 28 MeV, and the Beccheti-Greenlees potential was used for 1431 1451 101 lower proton energies. In both cases the transition region to 1431 1451 102 the Madland potential was chosen to approximately give 1431 1451 103 continuity in the reaction cross section. For deuterons, the 1431 1451 104 Perey global potential was used; for alpha particles the Moyen 1431 1451 105 potential was used; and for tritons the Beccheti-Greenlees 1431 1451 106 potential was used. 1431 1451 107 While the above optical potentials did describe the 1431 1451 108 experimental proton nonelastic cross section data fairly well, 1431 1451 109 we modified the theoretical predictions slightly to better agree 1431 1451 110 with the measurements, and renormalized the transmission 1431 1451 111 coefficients accordingly. In addition to using Si nonelastic 1431 1451 112 proton cross section measurements, we also were guided by p+Al 1431 1451 113 nonelastic data, scaled by A**2/3. The Si-30 nonelastic cross 1431 1451 114 section was taken by scaling the evaluated Si-28 value by 1.047 1431 1451 115 (an A**2/3 factor). 1431 1451 116 Inelastic scattering to the 2+ (2.24 MeV) and 4+ (5.95 MeV) 1431 1451 117 states in 30-Si was determined using a coupled-channel ECIS 1431 1451 118 calculation. To produce continuity in the calculated inelastic 1431 1451 119 cross sections up to 150 MeV, we performed an oblate rotational 1431 1451 120 band (0+, 2+, 4+) coupled channel calculation using the Madland 1431 1451 121 medium energy potential (with its imaginary potential reduced by 1431 1451 122 20%, to approximately account for the coupling). Deformation 1431 1451 123 parameters were chosen to reproduce the JENDL-3 evaluation at 20 1431 1451 124 MeV (H.Kitazawa et al.). The resulting deformation parameters 1431 1451 125 (beta_2=-0.33, beta_4=0.20) were close to those used for Si-28. 1431 1451 126 The same preequilibrium input parameters were used as for Si- 1431 1451 127 28, which was benchmarked against (n,xz) data from the Louvain 1431 1451 128 group at 63 MeV, and against unpublished (n,xp) data by Haight 1431 1451 129 et al. for neutrons up to 50 MeV. The TNG 1431 1451 144 code provides energy and angular distributions of particles 1431 1451 145 emitted in the compound and pre-compound reactions, ensures 1431 1451 146 consistency among all reactions, and maintains energy balance. 1431 1451 147 Evaluation work was completed in 1989, except for MT=3, 1431 1451 148 MF=1,2,3,102 which were completed May 1996. The latter results 1431 1451 149 Incorporated a new resonance region analysis. Uncertainty files 1431 1451 150 are provided for all FILE 3 cross sections using methodology 1431 1451 151 described in Hetrick et al.
