Mapping the deformation in the "island of inversion": Inelastic scattering of 30Ne and 36Mg at intermediate energies

NUCLEAR REACTIONS Pb(30Ne, 30Ne'), E=232 MeV/nucleon; C(30Ne, 30Ne'), E=228 MeV/nucleon; Pb(36Mg, 36Mg'), E=223 MeV/nucleon; C(36Mg, 36Mg'), E=218 MeV/nucleon, [secondary 30Ne and 36Mg beams from 9Be(48Ca, X), E=345 MeV/nucleon primary reaction using BigRIPS fragment separator at RIKEN facility]; measured particle spectra by Bρ-ΔE-TOF method using BigRIPS separator and ZeroDegree spectrometer, Eγ, Iγ, (particle)γ-coin using DALI2 array for γ detection, cross sections for the first 2+ states. 30Ne, 36Mg; deduced first 2+ levels, deformation lengths and B(E2) for the first 2+ states. Coulomb and nuclear excitations. Discussed neutron excitations across the N=20 shell for 30Ne. Comparisons with state-of-the-art shell-model calculations. Systematics of energies of first 2+ and 4+ states, and B(E2) values for the first 2+ states in N=20 isotones, and 26,28,30,32,34Ne, 28,30,32,34,36,38,40Mg, together with comparison of experimental and theoretical values from shell-model calculations.
