Abstract

The differential cross sections for elastic and inelastic scattering of α particles on 11B nuclei at energies of 40 and 50 MeV were measured in the entire angular range. The measured angular distributions were analyzed in terms of the optical model, the distorted-wave Born approximation, and the coupled-channel-method. Optical model potentials and quadrupole (β 2) and hexadecapole (β 4) deformation parameters were found from this analysis. The rise in the cross sections at backward angles was shown to be associated with the transfer mechanism of the heavy 7Li cluster.
