Isovector Quadrupole Resonance Observed in the N60i(C13,N13)C60o Reaction at E/A=100MeV

Abstract

The charge-exchange reaction N60i(C13,N13)C60o at E/A=100MeV has been studied to locate isovector (ΔT=1) non-spin-flip (ΔS=0) giant resonances. Besides the giant dipole resonance at Ex=8.7MeV, another resonance has been observed at Ex=20MeV with a width of 9 MeV. Distorted-wave Born approximation analysis on the angular distribution clearly indicated the L=2 multipolarity, attributing the Ex=20MeV state to the giant isovector quadrupole resonance.
