Abstract

It is emphasized that the coupling of the elastic channel to an elastic transfer channel leads to a nondispersive polarization potential with a periodic energy dependence. Evidence of this is found in the elastic scattering data of 12C+24Mg at low energies. The finding hints at a significant 12C+12C clustering effect in the ground state of 24Mg.
