Abstract

At very low energies of astrophysical interest, the Be7(p)8B reaction is almost totally peripheral. Consequently, the overall normalization of the cross section for this reaction is defined by the asymptotic normalization coefficient of the bound-state wave function of B8 in the two-body channel Be7+p. The reaction Be7(3He,d)8B is suggested as a tool to measure this asymptotic normalization coefficient thereby allowing one to define the absolute value of the astrophysical factor, S17(0), for the Be7(p)8B reaction.
