Abstract

The optical potential and observables for proton8He elastic scattering are studied within the single scattering approximation to the Kerman, McManus, and Thaler (KMT) multiple scattering expansion. Calculations are performed for proton8He elastic scattering at 72 MeV/nucleon, for which there are available experimental data, and also at 200 MeV/nucleon incident energy. It is shown that the calculated elastic scattering observables are modified significantly by the inclusion of the proton8He spin dependence arising from the nucleon-nucleon amplitude. The roles of the core and valence nucleon contributions to this spin dependence are clarified.
