Abstract

The α-decay properties of Lu155 and Lu157 show that their ground states are not πh11/2 (as they are in Tm153,155, and Ho151,153) but either πd3/2 or π1/2. From single-particle level systematics the πd3/2 assignment is favored. Calculations using the shell correction method predict the one-quasiparticle proton states based on the h11/2, d3/2, and s1/2 subshells to appear very close in energy in Lu, Ta, and Re nuclei with N∼84, independently of equilibrium deformation.
