Abstract

The tail of the proton distribution of 8B determines the rate of the 7Be(p, γ)8B reaction at low energies and is thereby of prime importance for the high-energy solar neutrino flux. We introduce a two-body model for 8B and analyse different experiments that are sensitive to the tail of the density distribution; most important is the measurement of total interaction nuclear cross-sections. The comparison indicates that the (p, γ) reaction rate has been overestimated so far.
