Abstract

The properties of nuclei with 4 ⩽ A ⩽ 16 are calculated in the shell model with the 0p active orbits using several Skyrme forces which give good agreement for nuclear bulk properties of spherical nuclei from 16O to 208Pb. The peculiarities of the shell model with density-dependent interactions are discussed. It is found that the Ska force gives a good description of energy spectra, magnetic moments, quadrupole moments and gamma transition rates, in addition to nuclear charge radii in the 0p shell. It should be stressed that no parameters are involved in the shell-model calculation. The two-body matrix elements and the single-particle energies are derived from the force, using harmonic-oscillator wave functions with the size parameter determined by minimization of the binding energy. The results compare well with other calculations performed with effective interactions fitted to energy levels or derived from realistic potentials.
