Abstract

The effect of the neutron separation energy of the nucleus on the nuclear reaction cross section is discussed based on a Coulomb-modified Glauber model. The large increase of nuclear reaction cross sections for exotic nuclei (such as 6He, 8He, 11Li, 11Be) on a 12C target is reasonably explained. The nuclear reaction cross sections for a large number of stable nuclear systems are also reproduced over a wide range of energies.
