Isoscalar E2 strength in C12 from the (e,eα) reaction

Abstract

We have measured the first complete angular correlations of α-particle emission from the C12 isoscalar giant quadrupole resonance (GQ0R) following excitation by inelastic electron scattering, for momentum transfers from 0.24 to 0.61 fm1. Analysis of these uniquely determines the GQ0R strength distribution for the α0 channel and sets limits on that for α1.
