Abstract

We develop a local approximation to the Δh model for coherent π⁰ photoproduction in nuclei which allows one to perform reliable calculations in heavy nuclei where the traditional Δh approach is technically unfeasible. We evaluate the cross section in different nuclei and compare our results with available data in ¹²C.

Mass distribution for coherent rho meson produced in the proton induced nuclear reactions

The mass distribution spectra have been calculated for the rho meson produced coherently in the $(p, p^{'})$ reaction on nuclei. The distortion due to elastically scattered protons has been approximated by the attenuation factor for them. The optical potential for the rho meson is constructed by folding linearly the energy dependent ρ nucleon scattering amplitude with the nuclear density distribution. The ρ nucleon scattering amplitude is taken from calculations, which are constrained by the elementary ρ production data. The calculated cross sections are compared at various beam energies. The dependence of the cross section on the ejectile $p^{'}$ emission angle as well as on the target nucleus is also illustrated. Beside these, the sensitivity of the cross section to the ρ meson optical potential is investigated.
Antikaon production in A + A collisions at SIS energies within an off-shell G-matrix approach

The production and propagation of antikaons—described by dynamical spectral functions $A_{h} (X, P →,M^{2})$ as evaluated from a coupled channel G-matrix approach—is studied for nucleus–nucleus collisions at SIS energies in comparison to the conventional quasi-particle limit and the available experimental data using off-shell transport theory. We find that the K⁻ spectra for ¹²C+¹²C and ⁵⁸Ni+⁵⁸Ni at 1.8 A GeV remain underestimated in the G-matrix approach as in the on-shell quasi-particle approximation whereas the preliminary spectra for Au+Au at $1.5 A$ GeV are well described in both limits. This also holds approximately for the K⁻ rapidity distributions in semi-central collisions of Ni+Ni at $1.93 A$ GeV. However, in all limits considered there is no convincing description of all spectra simultaneously. Our off-shell transport calculations, furthermore, demonstrate that the strongest in-medium effects should be found for low antikaon momenta in the center-of-mass frame, since the deceleration of the antikaons in the attractive Coulomb and nuclear potentials and the propagation to the on-shell mass induces a net shift and squeezing of the K⁻ spectra to the low momentum regime.
Coherent π0-photoproduction from atomic nuclei
2002, Physics Letters, Section B: Nuclear, Elementary Particle and High-Energy Physics
Differential and total cross sections for coherent π⁰-photoproduction from ¹²C, ⁴⁰Ca, ⁹³Nb and Pb targets have been measured throughout the region of the Δ(1232)-resonance. The experiments were performed with the TAPS-detector at the Mainz accelerator MAMI. The characteristic proportionality of the cross section to the square of the atomic mass number and to the nuclear mass form factor is clearly demonstrated. The data allow for the first time detailed tests of model predictions for this reaction. The comparison of the data to model predictions shows that the Δ-nucleus interaction saturates: it is described for heavy nuclei with the same potential parameters as for ⁴He.
Medium effects in coherent pion photo- and electroproduction on 4He and 12C

Coherent $π^{0}$ photo- and electroproduction on $^{4}$ He and $^{12}$ C nuclei is investigated in the framework of a distorted wave impulse approximation in momentum space. The elementary process is described by the recently developed unitary isobar model. Medium effects are considered by introducing a phenomenological $Δ$ self-energy. Recent experimental data for $^{4}$ He and $^{12}$ C can be well described over a wide range of energies and emission angles by the assumption that the $Δ$ –nuclear interaction saturates.
Coherent photoproduction of pions on spin-zero nuclei in a relativistic, non-local model *

A relativistic and non-local model for the coherent photoproduction of pions on spin-zero nuclei is presented. The production operator is derived from an effective Lagrangian model that contains all the degrees of freedom known to contribute to the elementary process. Using the framework of DWIA, the matrix elements of this operator are evaluated using relativistic bound state wave functions. Final state interactions are accounted for via a pion-nucleus optical potential. The effects of in-medium modifications of the production operator are discussed. We give results for ¹²C and ⁴⁰Ca, and compare our calculations to the data of the A2 collaboration at MAMI.
