Abstract

Within the quasiparticle-phonon nuclear model the E1 transition probabilities to Jπ = 1 with K = 0 and 1 states below 4 MeV in well deformed nuclei are calculated. The results are illustrated by 172Yb. It is shown that the inclusion of isovector electric dipole interactions in addition to the octupole ones decreases the E1 strength by more than an order of magnitude, thus bringing it closer to experimental data. The B(E1) values for K = 0 are 3–4 times stronger than for K = 1 states.
