Abstract
The low hindrance factors observed in the 14C decay of 223Ra to the 209Pb excited states at 779 and 1423 keV are interpreted as a consequence of the similitude of the wavefunctions describing the uncoupled neutron in 223Ra, Omega =3/2 (3/2(631)(X)3/2(761)), and in the first two excited states of 209Pb, namely the 1i11/2 and 1j15/2 shell model orbits.
