Abstract

To resolve the discrepancy between two sets of C12(n,γ0)13C cross-section data, the reaction has been reinvestigated in the neutron energy region between 8 and 11 MeV. The present and previous data sets are compared with each other and with existing data on the C13(γ,n0)12C cross section using the principle of detailed balance. The present data are in agreement with one of the previous data sets, which has an energy dependence in good agreement with that of the (γ,n0) data. These (n,γ0) cross-section data are, however, approximately a factor of 2 smaller than the (γ,n0) cross sections over the entire neutron energy range of the comparison (from 7 to 20 MeV).
