A measurement of dσ/dΩ and Ay in elastic proton scattering from 12,13C, 29Si and 31P at 72 MeV

Abstract

We have measured the differential cross section dσ/dΩ and the analyzing power Ay, in the elastic scattering of protons from 12,13C, 29Si and 31P in the angular range 15°⩽ Θ c.m.⩽145°. The data were analyzed with a conventional optical-model potential. By including the backward-angle data and total reaction cross sections in the analysis we could considerably reduce the uncertainties, which were observed by fitting the forward-angle data alone.
