Abstract

The isotope Pb181 was identified in Ca40 irradiations of Sm144 via its α-decay properties: Eα=7.044±0.015 MeV, and T1/2=5030+40 ms. The assignment was based on excitation-function and cross-bombardment (39K+147Sm and Ca40+147Sm) information and on decay-energy systematics. Also, in the course of the Ca40+147Sm measurements, two α groups that have not been reported previously were assigned to Pb183 α decay. The observation of these α groups necessitates a correction to the adopted mass of Pb183.
