Abstract

Gamow-Teller transitions in medium mass nuclei are studied within the framework of the proton-neutron interacting boson-fermion model (IBFM-2). The calculations reproduce the observed trends with mass number quite well. A quenching factor (theory/experiment) still remains but it is reduced from the value appropriate to the simple pairing model, ≈70, to ≈3.5.
