Abstract

The energy of the first level above the proton threshold in F18 has been determined to be 5672.57±0.32 keV by γ-ray measurements using the N14(α)18F reaction. The change in the excitation energy of this level previously measured at 5668±2 keV affects significantly the calculated reaction rate for O17 destruction during hydrogen burning in stars.
