Abstract

We report a search for a short lived neutral particle φ emitted in the decay of the 15.1 MeV Jπ(T)=1+(1) state in C12. The experiment is sensitive to φ→e+e decays and finds no evidence for such a particle. We set upper limits on Γφ/Γγ for mean lifetimes between ∼1013 and ∼108 sec and in the mass range 1.022.5 MeV.
