Vacuum polarization effects in subbarrier nuclear fusion reactions

Abstract

We evaluate the influence of the Uehling potential on the subbarrier fusion of light elements. Noticeable modifications of the barrier penetrability are obtained for systems ranging from α + 12C up to 28Si + 28Si.
