Abstract

Elastic and inelastic photon scattering on 12C and 16O in the Δ resonance region have been studied within an extended isobar doorway approach, which includes open shell configurations both in ground and excited states. Medium effects to Δ-propagation are found to be important for elastic scattering. The structure functions for scattering of linearly polarized photons have also been calculated. Medium effects show up more markedly in the cross sections for polarized photons. Inelastic scattering has been studied for the excitation of the 2+(4.44 MeV) state in 12C using various nuclear models. The cross section at forward angles is found to be particularly model-dependent.
