Abstract

Coupled-channels effects occurring in fusion (23Na→+48Ti) and elastic scattering (7Li→+120Sn) of aligned deformed heavy ions are treated on the same footing in a semiquantal decoupling approximation which holds for large angular momenta. Numerical results obtained are compared to those of the exact quantum mechanical formalism by invoking recent experimental data.
