Barrier penetration calculation of heavy-ion fusion cross sections in the above- and sub-barrier regions

Abstract

Results of a barrier penetration calculation of heavy-ion fusion cross sections for the systems 12C and 9Be, 11B, 12C, 13C, 14N, 15N, 16O, 17O, 18O, 19F, 20Ne and 24Mg; 18O and 24Mg; 19F and 27Al, 28Si and 30Si; and 16O and 40Ca are presented here. The model employed takes into account the Coulomb interaction barrier and is valid at energies both above and below the Coulomb barrier. The model can fit the data in both the above- and sub-barrier regions. The calculated results, including the maximum fusion cross section and the energy at which the maximum occurs, are found to be consistent with the experimental data. The calculated results seem to be somewhat sensitive to the choice of the boundary conditions radius, i.e the radius at which the logarithmic derivatives of the external and internal solutions are matched.
