Abstract

Using a microscopic semiclassical approach we analyze the effect of deformation on the splitting of giant dipole resonances and consequently on the observed experimental widths. We study the behavior of the width for the Nd, Sm, Sn, and Mo chain of isotopes. Altogether these effects can account for 3040 ?f the observed widths.
