Abstract

The elastic and inelastic (4.44 MeV, 2+) scattering of 608 MeV 16O+12C has been measured up to 36° in the c.m. frame. Although the angular distributions are strongly dominated by far side contributions, this feature does not remove the continuous ambiguity in the optical model parameters. The calculated value for σR, 1337±22 mb, agrees with nuclear transparency predictions.
