Statistical significance of forward-backward asymmetry of the fluctuating nuclear angular distributions

Abstract

A parameter characterizing the forward-backward asymmetry of angular distribution is defined and its statistical features are discussed for a fluctuating pure compound nucleus cross section. It is shown that even for the energy averaged cross section a considerable asymmetry can appear with a significant probability.
